UTHSA Biobanking and Genome Analysis

Overview of Services

The Biobanking and Genome Analysis Core Laboratory offers services in the following four categories:  



  • Services for biological sample processing and storage
  • Isolation of nucleic acids from biological specimens
  • Quantity and quality assessment of nucleic acids (Nanodrop spectrophotometer and Agilent Bioanalyzer)
  • Epstein-Barr Virus transformation of lymphocytes to establish lymphoblastoid cell lines 


  • High throughput genotyping of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using Agena Mass Array technology
  • TaqMan allelic discrimination analysis using a Bio-Rad CFX96 and CFX384 Touch real-time PCR system

Whole Genome Gene Expression

  •  Whole genome gene expression microarray analysis for human aand model organisms (Agilent GE microarrays in various formats)
  •  Targeted gene expression analysis using the TaqMan real-time quantitative PCR or SYBR Green methods and the Bi-Rad CFX96 and CFX384 Touch real-time PCR systems
  •  Absolute quantification of RNA transcripts and DNA copy number with a Bio-Rad QX200 droplet digital PCR system
  •  Access to Agilent GeneSpring analysis software

Digital Slide Scanning

  •  Brightfield and fluorescent imaging of tissues with an Aperio VERSA
